KOLHAPURI COUTURE known as Kolhapuri, the traditional handcrafted footwear, emphasising ethnicity and the natural finish, is the product of labour of an entire family - men preparing the bottom soles and women crafting the inner sole and decorative uppers.

The ubiquitous Kolhapuri has been adorning the feet of women and men on the move, for centuries. Painstakingly created, with hours of labour, it offered a unique blend of rustic ruggedness and charm of a well honed craft.

Motivation and enabling has made it possible for the artisans to promote their own signature brand - 'ToeHold'. With its handcrafted elegance, ToeHold has now become a fashion statement. ToeHold artisans are all set to secure a foot hold in the global market, adding a whole range of new designs to the existing traditional ones.

With dexterity and skill at their fingertips, ToeHold artisans have combined modern designs and novel use of newer materials to weave a magic and create an exciting new collection which is classy yet with a uniquely ethnic touch.

ToeHold Artisans Collaborative Ltd. will soon be a reality!

Tech support : CLRI Sponsors : NLDP

The artisans believe each of their Self Help Group (SHG), formed as saving and credit affinity groups of 15 to 20 women, to be a tiny company and they will soon have a big company to take up all marketing and development activities. Out of the net profit, 40% will go to the Company, 40% will go to the artisans family that produced the 'Chappals' and the balance of 20% goes to their SHGs, to plough back to the business and development. ToeHold Artisans Company will be the first grassroots women majority company.

Unique to ToeHold SHGs, some male members of the family have also formed independent mens' SHGs and there is an adolescents girls SHGs too, integrating the entire family in the development process.

Networking with other agencies Athani, ToeHold groups have initiated health camps, improvement of sanitation, children's education etc.
